Description:

Suffolk County Council have restricted the use of the disabled persons bus pass until 9:30am, instead of 24 hours a day as it previously was in Suffolk. We believe that this is unfair on the disabled people of Suffolk. This is because many disabled people need to access education, training and employment, and medical appointments before this time period, and many disabled people are unable to drive. It is also restrictive as many day-to-day activities will take disabled people longer than the average person, meaning using a later bus may be inappropriate for their needs. The Life Opportunities Survey Interim Report published in December 2010 by the Government has already found that many disabled people in Britain are living socially isolated, cash-strapped lives and struggling to participate in normal activities. We believe that the removal of the 24/7 disabled bus pass is just making their lives even harder. We are therefore calling on Suffolk County Council to make the disabled persons bus pass available for use in Suffolk 24 hours a day.
